AURA FARMING: A Social Space for Middle Schoolers

  • Northshore Pediatric Therapy 6443 Northeast 181st Street Kenmore, WA, 98028 United States (map)

Middle school is such a stressful... *ahem* I mean, special time in everyone's life - Growing up, navigating new social dynamics and responsibilities - And this phase can be even trickier for a middle schooler who's neurodivergent.

Introducing…

Bobby Morton, MS, CCC-SLP

Bobby is a licensed speech-language pathologist who brings a wealth of clinical experience with pre-teens and teenagers to this unique setting.

He designed Aura Farming to be a space for 5th to 8th graders to connect with peers, explore their interests, practice social communication, and learn executive functioning skills that will help them succeed in their daily lives.

This group is designed to be a consistent weekly meet-up for your middle schooler to:

  • Do cool stuff with other neurodivergent kids around their age in a low-pressure, but still clinically supportive setting.

  • Talk through those rough social situations that happen to all of us during middle school.

  • Develop important executive functioning skills like problem-solving, keeping their academic responsibilities organized, balancing work and fun, and effectively self-advocating for their needs.

  • Learn how to pick up on subtle social cues that get oh-so-common once we hit middle school (what’s that side-eye supposed to mean…?).

  • Develop meaningful relationships with other kids in their age group and a speech therapist who genuinely cares about what they’re going through.

  • Practice applying skills they’ve worked on in their 1:1 speech therapy sessions to real-life situations with other people beyond just their speech therapist.

  • Middle school is a time of big shifts in social dynamics and academic demands. With more interactions these days happening through a screen than IRL (in real life), a lot of opportunities for developing healthy social communication and daily life skills often fall by the wayside.

So, our team is setting out to create a high-quality, specialized solution for this huge area of need. Traditional 1:1 speech therapy is one piece of the puzzle, but there’s so much more to it that can’t be effectively addressed in that kind of sterile clinical set-up.

Kids need a space to APPLY skills in REAL LIFE situations with ON-THE-GROUND support. So, we’re making it happen. Join us!
